1st Team 7 - 0 Old Woodhouseians II

Woodhouseians came into the game unbeaten in the league, and having conceded only 6 goals in 6 games so we knew were in for a hard working day. We starting fantastically with Rhys and Joe Spires both having the beating of the full backs. The three in the middle were also donga great job with Chris, Webbo and Dan mixing it up who was pushing forward, but the best start was Mike who having been out a few weeks looked like he was hungry for goals. After 15 mins we found the net when Webbo played a great ball from the centre circle and a great first touch and finish from Mike put us in the lead. Woodhouseians looked rattled and we took advantage after Massy played a great ball from the right wing that passed behind two Woodhouseian defenders and dropped nicely for Mike who made the finish look easy! We had plenty of chances after this but Woodhouseians started to come back into the game having two great efforts stopped with ease by the Egs No1, first jumping high into the top corner and then putting his body on front of a second effort. If that didn’t dishartern the Oppo then the burning pace of Rhys and Joe from a counter attack certainly did as they both just left the full backs standing and Rhys pulled it back for Joe to bury our 3 goal. Woodhouseians were not used to losing and started to get frustrated and a late challenge and then moment of madness from the Woodhouseians No15 left them with 10 men and under even more pressure.
We needed to start quickly in the second half to take all the heart out of Woodhouseians but it took us a while to get after them and then a second Yellow for Webbo meant it was 10 v 10! Woodhouseians were certainly lifted by this and started to come at us more but we soaked it up and didn’t break. We put the game to bed after a great free kick from Garry Spires made it 4-0, this lifted us again as we went on the hunt for more goals. Mike was next to find the net finish off a great performance with his first hat trick for the Bertian Boys, it came after a lovely ball over the top put him in 1:1 with the keeper and he side stepped and put it away with ease (5-0). We went 6-0 up quickly after that when Hooper hugged the touch line drawing the defenders in and then pulling it back for Chris to put it home. We kept of pushing for goals and it fairness Woodhouseians didn’t just sit back, they came at us forcing Paco into a few saves, but we hit them on the break again after Dan Morgan powered through the pitch then played it to Chris who lifted it over the defence finding Morgan who skimmed it in off his head making it 7-0. Woodhouseians tried to look for a goal and we had some hairy moments with Sonny and Billy both having to clear their lines, but we finished with another clean sheet and we left Woodhouseians 100% unbeaten record in tatters after a complete mauling. This is what happens when we have our players firing and we were even short John Day, Kass, Manning and Monny.
