Disappointing result in a game that was certainly not deserving a 3-0 score line, but nothing but proud of my boys after their performance hard to pick a MOTM with so many deserving it.
We knew EBOGs would be a hard game they came in on a 7 game unbeaten record, EBOGs started the brighter team and we had our work cut out for us as they passed the ball about nicely and looked dangerous on the break. After about 10 mins we had settled in and started to make chances of our own with Ryan dominating in the air and Joe and Ramsey looking like real threats on the outside. 20 mins and we was down to 10 men after a mistimed challenge from the captain, even with 10 men we still knocked the ball about and the game was very open.
Both defences were doing great containing some very skilful and fast attackers, but it was EBOGs that took the lead with a counter attack that Egbertians should have dealt with. The Bertian Boys started to show real character after the goal pushing hard on the EBOGs Midfield and Defence, Chris & Jason worked harder than I’ve seen two CM work in a long time both supporting attacking moves and getting back to break any attacks up. In fact every player on the pitch worked their socks off! The wind had the second goal as an EBOGs corner was whipped in high and over everybody only for the wind to catch it and send it in off the inside of the far post.
Despite this the boys kept fighting and another counter attack resulting in a free kick that was well taken and bent round the wall into the far corner, hard work for the lads against a good and very well organised Barnet team, would love to try it again with 11 men, maybe another cup…
