1st Team 5 - 2 Albanian III

The pitch looked fantastic, credit to the groundsman who had clearly done his job over the wet few weeks with had.
Egbertians started slowly but after 5 or so mins started to take control of the game passing the ball about and exposing the Albanian full backs, we started to push them back and forced a corner. Harley whipped in a dangerous ball that was met but Adam and flicked in by the Albanian defense to put the Bertian Boys 1-0 up!
The Egs started to dominate and the Albanian team was 2nd best to almost every ball, a great ball whipped in from the right wing was flicked on by Ryan and D Morgan buried home a shot to the bottom right corner, 2-0 and all of a sudden the Albanian midfield burst into life and all credit to them they tried hard to get back into the game but was denied by some great defensive work and world class saves from Matt Paxton.
The 2nd half saw Albanians start brightly and put us under a good amount of pressure but between Adam, Manning, Sonny and new to the first team Charlie Hill they never looked like scoring, in fact it took a foul on our keeper that saw the ball slip his grip and pushed in by the Albanian striker to give them a goal. Not quite sure how the ref didn’t give a foul as it seemed pretty obvious to me. 2-1 up and clearly the better team we kept putting the pressure on and got a third goal when Webbo took a big throw over the defense to the far past where D Morgan was again in the right place and knocked it in of his thigh. At this point we was well in control and Danny, Harley, Ryan and Chris all had good chances to extend out lead, but the next goal came as a surprise after we picked the ball up in our half and Harley put a great ball into the pacey Ryan Folan who skilfully passed the Albanian defense and was looking like he’d easily score only to have the ref call up for off side? Shocking as he was easily 5 – 10 yards on. From the free kick Albanians pinged the ball out to the left and the number 10 took it down and slotted home a great goal to make it 3-2.
More chances followed for the Egs but it was another great throw from Webbo that was met by Adam Walker who put up 4-2 up. Albanian to be fair never gave up and made us fight for every ball, but we seemed too much for them on the wings as both our wingers and full backs were having their way at will. Charlie and Chris worked well down the left and a great move saw Chris bypass the Albanian full back and take the ball to the by-line but the pass was just behind the oncoming Follers!
The Egbertians 5th goals was worth waiting 80 mins for, another long throw from Webbo looped over the Albanian defense but this time was met with a fantastic bicycle kick from Ryan Folan!
With 10 mins to go Egbertians were happy to see the game out and passed ball about trying to not give Albanians anything to attack…
Not the best performance from boys but we can build on this and start to push on in the league and hope to pick up some momentum.
