4th Team 2 - 1 Old Parkonians IV
Date: 2014-02-22
Venue: Away

Egbertian IV's moved into the Semi-Final of the Old Boys cup with a disciplined performance against strong Parkonians side. Egbertians lost the toss and were playing against the wind in the first half so a tactical switch in their formation saw Pybus sitting deep to protect the back 4 and Goulding dropping off the front line to help hold the ball up. Parkonians started strongly and had 3 good chances to take the lead but found Garrett in the Egbertian goal in inspired form. He first saved a low shot to his right that was heading into the bottom corner and then made another magnificent save by tipping a goal bound effort over the bar that looked a certain goal. Egbertains were standing firm and were causing trouble on the break with Baldwin going close from close range and then Kane having a goal disallowed for a foul/offside?! Egbertians made it to the break 0-0, which was part one of the game plan complete, and pushed Goulding and Pybus further forwards in their roles for the second half. Egbertian started the second half strongly creating some decent half chances but credit to Parkonians who took the lead from a set piece that Egbertians failed to clear when their centre back towered in a header from a great cross to make it 1-0 to the home side. That goal rattled Egbertians and there were some wobbles in the 5 minutes that follwed but Egbertians got their formation and heads back in gear and pressed to find an equaliser that duly came in the 65th minute. Baldwin was giving the right back a torrid time down the wing and won a free kick which Hyde stepped up and found the top corner with a peach of a strike to bring the cup tie level. Egbertians then looked the likelier side to win it and pressed for the winner but Old Parkonians were having chances of their own as the game started to open up. With the clock running down and extra time looming, Egbertian's broke from the back with White playing a through ball to Baldwin whose predatory intincts saw a deft chip over the advancing keeper to send Egbertians into the Semi-Final.
