Not the best performance but still scored some good goals and created plenty of chances, more importantly kept up winning ways…
Bertians started off scrappy as the pitch was bobbly and the wind was playing havoc with the ball in the air, when we did get the ball down we showed signs of being able to play but only small glimpses! A good move down the left saw Webbo turn in a great cross from the left that was met by a powerful header from Rhys to put the Bertian Boys in Control. This spurred the boys on and we started to play some decent football but we failed to convert on a few chances, first when Ryan Folan outpaced and muscled the defender only to find the inside of the net and secondly when Ryan Murry powered past and shooting a hard shot over the bar.
Southgate got a lucky break when a mix up between the Paco and Johnny left Paco back pedalling only for the Southgate striker to put it over the top and into the net making it 1-1. A second Southgate goal came after a blatantly obvious off side by a good 6 yards
2-1 down at half time and not playing the best football so we made a few changes putting Dan Morgan in the middle with Webbo to try and make the ball stick a bit and use Joe and Speedy wide to stretch the game. The change seemed to work and a great ball from Ryno and fantastic finish from Joe put the game level 2-2.
We were in control again after another great ball from Ryno put Follers in clean on goal, who side footed it past the keeper to keep up his great form of 5 in 3 games.
3-2 up and the chances started to come think and fast with Speedy hitting the inside of the post, about 5 mins of pinball in the Southgate box and the Southgate keeper pulling off a few great saves, It was the provider turn scorer when Ryno put us 4-2 up (2 assists and a goal) that brought on 15 mins of in the box defending from Southgate as Egbertians turned things up…
4-2 Final score and I think Southgate are lucky we played poorly to our standard and they got away with only conceding 4 goals… Next week who knows what’s in store for the Mighty Bertian Boys……….. #COYE #Bertians
