1st Team 2 - 0 Hale End Athletic III

After two previous postponements we finally played A406 Derby, this time it was on the 4G pitch at Wadham Lodge and only a stone throw away from our home ground.
The flat slick surface was always going to suit our playing style and we did not disappoint, we started well and slowly started to pin Hale End back in their own half and dominate the game. Chances started to come but we failed to test the keeper and with our two starting strikers and leading scores out we needed somebody else to step up.
The first goal came after a great over the top ball from Webbo put Speedy in behind the Hale End defense, a great move and finish put The Mighty Egs 1-0 up. The rest of the half was the most one sided game I’ve seen in a while with Hale End occasionally counter attacking but hitting a solid Egbertian defense. We had 2 ruled out for offside and blatant penalty waved off and missed chances at open goals…
How we was only 1-0 up at half time and not 4 or 5 is shocking!!!
The second half was much the same with Egs being the dominant side but being only 1-0 down gave Hale End a bit off hope and this made them a bit more adventurous. More chances and more ruled out for offside but a second came after another great ball from the middle put Speedy once again in on goal, this one needed a bit more tricky footwork to get it under control, making it look easy Aaron put us 2-0 up and looking comfortable.
The last 15 mins was a bit more back and forth but the Egs could not get another goal despite several attempts, some down to great saves but some down to shocking finishing or control in the box….
Keep the points coming and if we get our target of 38 we may still be able to secure promotion!
