A tough game this week, with Top of the league playing bottom in effect. But the lads really raised to the challenge and were commendable on all counts.
Egs first half was a bit shaky, with some nervous passing and a little insecurity on the ball. Grams were robust in the middle of the park and one of the more physically challenging sides we have met to date. Despite Egs edgy start we battle well and kept shape, and were really unfortunate to be have an obvious hand ball call denied by the ref. This gave the advantage of play to Grams who beat our last man and scored the opening Goal. Egs continued to battle hard in the midfield and bring the game to Grams. Ricky battled hard in the middle and managed to find himself just inside the box where he was deliberately chopped down and awarded a penalty. Daryll stepped up and equalised with a well taken and expected goal from him. This brought the end to a well fought first half at 1-1. Second half was a lot better for us with good pressure and a lot of good build up play to get to sit the majority of the 2nd half in Grams last 1/3 where we could just not convert the chances into goals. Grams were becoming frustrated and began to get even more physical with some of their play. this disrupted some of the younger lads a little and gave grams the breathing space they needed to play the ball a little in the final 10 mins. A call for handball was awarded to grams against Daryll which gave them a free kick just outside our 18 yard box with 6 mins left. They converted with a really great shot into the top corner..unstoppable with the favour of the wind. A final miscommunication with our standing in Keeper Chris, lead to a really silly goal at the very last seconds of play. The result really did not justify Egs performance and Grams will be counting their lucky escape on the way back out to Enfield.
