A tough loss yesterday!

I think just about everybody came away from yesterdays game gutted about the defeat.

The manner of the loss was more galling than the performance for most parts.

We had a few players away but had a strong enough squad to win the game. We started well for the first 10 minutes and then switched off twice. The first goal was a break away by the opposition and a mis kicked clearance from a cross rolled into the path of their centre mid. He swept the ball home from outside the box - unchallenged.

5 minutes later a free header from a corner saw their captain jump - unchallenged to knock the ball home.

We composed ourselves and carried on pressing. This paid off when after 30 minutes Michael Proctor ran through onto a through ball and from the confusion caused, Michael Proctor coolly spun and clipped a shot into the back of the net. We had a few more chances during the first half which should have resulted in Eggs at least going in ahead.

The team started the 2nd half well. We created 2-3 more chances that with better composure would have ended up with us equalizing. After about 15 minutes our equaliser finally came. Mike Ramsey robbed a centre mid. He burst past two players and struck a cleanly hit shot across the keeper into the bottom right hand corner (contender for goal of the season). Game on and 2-2. We pressed and missed 3 clear chances. Two of which were 1-on-1's.

We failed to defend a break away properly and they snatched another goal 2-3. We carried on applying pressure and a through ball saw Liam run through and score to make it 3-3. Again we dominated play and pressed the oopo. More chances including a further 1-on-1 went begging. We mounted another attack through the middle. We were through on goal again on a 1v1 with the keeper. He blocked the shot with his feet. His clearance went to their full back who in turn passed down the wing. Their winger ran down the wing unchallenged and crossed the ball in. The striker got across our defender and clipped the cross into the back of the net. 4-3...... We changed formation and threw he kitchen sink at them.

We had a few more chances which went begging and the final whistle blew.

Enfield Grammarians had 6 chances and converted 4 of them. We had 15 chances and scored 3. The overall performance was good - but poor concentration, composure and positioning in defence and attack cost us dearly.

Hoping people can learn from yesterday and dominate their opposite player - for 90+mins. We play much much tougher opposition over the next month so we need to wake up!
