I think the performance for the most part was quiet good.
We played against 5 of last seasons premiership champions and really was undone by clinical finishing and two very bad non-calls by the referee that gifted them two goals.
That said we still allowed them to get into goal scoring positions in order to convert the chances.
We bossed the opening twenty minutes and had them working very hard to contain us. A blatant handball in the middle of the park saw their centre mid bring the ball down and thread a pass through to their striker. The referee was very close to this but failed to make the right call. Minchendenians went onto score. We quickly equalised with a through ball to Simon Jones. The shot was blocked. His follow up shot was charged down and Nick Lewis arrived in time to force the ball home.
Game on. We carried carving them open and had their keeping working hard to keep us out. Then another push and hand ball saw advantage wrongly given to the oppo and they duly dispatched the chance with a clever chip over our keeper.
They went on to score two more goals from quick lapses of concentration against the run of play. During this time we still posed the oppo plenty of problems but failed to convert the chances created.
We created about 12 chances compared to their 5. The difference was the referee and the fact that they converted 4 of theirs whereas we only took one of ours. Even at 4-1 they were arguing with each other because they new they were being outplayed.
What we need to improve upon is quicker and better passing and putting pressure on the oppo. We stood off them too many times when stepping up would have forced the opposing player to make a decision. I encourage playing out all times. But that does not mean we can't catch out a full back our centre back with a long ball. Its everybody's responsibility to create attacks and goal scoring opportunities.
