3rd Team 4 - 4 Southgate county Reserves
Date: 2015-01-10
Venue: Home
Referee: Scott Stratford

Started with an exact 11 for this weeks opening game of the year. With a cry off the night before by Cristhian. So a team of mixed experiences and untested positions for such an important game. Ref did not turn up and so both teams refereed a half each. First half was an uneasy start with the tacky pitch quality and inexperience of some of our squad playing together. Much of the first 15 was played in the middle, which was really broken up due to weather and made it difficult for either side to really progress. Southgate got a good break on the flank and a cross assisted by the wind and a mis header from myself, unluckily landed the ball to their striker who tipped it in. Nico equalised within 10 mins with a great shot just inside their 18 yard box from build up play between Liam, Ricky and Val. Southgate took the lead again 10 mins before half time with some poor defending from Mo and Jahir, allowing their winger and No 10 to creep the ball past our keeper Alex, whom should of covered the angles better. Nico was clearly brought down in the box, but with no league ref, play continued bringing an end to the 1st half.
2nd half Egs started a little more confident but post xmas fitness levels were starting to show and the midfield began to struggle. Southgate scored a 3rd, after Liam got overloaded on the LHS. Eggs continued to push and although a little dis-jointed Nico scored a second, making best of some confusion in the oppositions back four. Southgate scored their 4th from a corner a few minutes after with poor marking on our part. Eggs continued to push and pressure to keep ourselves in the game and got rewarded through a goal from Ricky. The finally 10 - 15 minutes was very end to end. Got the opportunity to rest some tired legs when Subs became available from Bayo's team and some good football from Simon Jones on the right gave Nick Lewis the chance to finish our game even at 4 - 4. A satisfactory result for the first game of the year. There is plenty to do as the squad has experienced almost a 60% change due to player movement and injury and is virtually unrecognisable from earlier in the season. This result is a morale and spirit incentive for the squad, especially as this is the most game time the players have had as a team, and we are still missing several injured. Big thank you to Simon, Nick and Danny who helped out in the dying minutes of the game and gave the the 3rds a breathe of life to take our first point of the season.
