4th Team 3 - 2 Old Vaughanians

Egbertian IV team took a well needed 3 points against a resilient Old Vaughanians side in some really tough conditions for both sides. Egs had a number of players away this week and with the reshuffle of the pack it took some time for Egs to settle and the opposition took full advantage with a well worked first goal from their tricky centre forward. Egbertians soon equalised with a 22 pass move that saw every player touch the ball and ended with Palmer threading a delightful through ball to Baldwin who rounded the goal keeper to score an amazing team goal. Credit to the opposition who got their noses back in front as they capitalised from some slack Egbertian defending and went into the break 2-1 up. Some harsh words were said at half time by the Management team and it certainly worked as the Egs dominated the 2nd half and soon equalised. Baldwin won a free kick near the edge of the opposition penalty box and Palmer curled in a delightful free kick into the top corner that gave the keeper no chance. The turnning point in the game came when the oppo caught the Egs on the break and with their stricker certain to score Garrett pulled out a world class save to tip a goal bound effort on to the bar and away to safety. That spurred on the mighty egs and a slick midfield move involving McCann, Sickking and Brooks ended with McLean sending Palmer free inside the box and he calmly mugged the keeper by slotting it through his legs to put the Egs 3-2 up. The management team then switched to 4-5-1 and parked the bus to ensure the Egs started the year with a well-deserved 3 points.
