A frustrating draw against an organised but not the best Albanian side.
Without 7 regulars missing we still managed to field a side, carve out the majority of the chances and earn a draw. With a number of new players in the side and on one of the worst, uneven pitches anyone would have come across we still came off the field frustrated at the result.
Alex, our keeper for the day pulled off 4 great saves and was solid for us. Despite being singled out for some rough treatment from Albanians whenever they got the chance to launch the ball into the box.
Theo Stoica was impressive back in the side after 2 years away and Chris Wogmo was assured in his debut too. It was difficult conditions with only 12 lads and then we lost Joe Ayling to groin injury, meaning we played out 60 minutes with 11 men/no subs. This was really only ten as the 11th lad was a cousin of one the lads and was not of the level.
We lost Theo to cramp for 15 of those minutes too so we along with the 2nd team effectively had 9 men for a period of the game...
The game was really a tale of bad misses and an awful pitch. The pitch only accounted for the half of the clear goal scoring opportunities.
The work rate was excellent today and the guys worked hard for each other. They may not have moved the ball as quickly as they should have but considering the unevenness of the pitch it was almost understandable.
