The final game and a must win, to stave of relegation. Academics started with 10 men for much of the 1st half, they dug in and played some good football, but obviously didn't have the opportunities being one short. Egs pressured continuously mixing good movement attacking play with long ball pressure. our break cam after the first twenty when some excellent play between Mod, Ricky and Mo sent allowed Long to pop the ball home for the first. Egs continued pressuring and within the 35 min mark, Long, Mod and Mo played Ricky into the 18 yard box where he gracefully finished off a near corner shot. Well deserved as he often doesn't get the rewards from his hard work as a battling mid. Mod, Mo and Jordan all had chances during the first half, but couldn't add to the scoreline. The second half was a lot tighter as Egs seemed to stop communicating, probably from the shock of actually being in front for once. There was constant pressure from Egs and Long and Jordan both came close, Long s being the closest with a lovely gliding outside foot shot, around the keeper that bounced inside the post and out. Eventually the final goal came from the most basic of mistakes, with Academics failing to pick up Brian from a corner, allowing him to comfortably head the third home. A truly remarkable end to the season for the thirds and one deserved especially those that have stuck at it through the darker times. Thanks go out to Bayo for providing us with Mod, this game, when his team were always playing and in need. The support from Andy and Tim's players in the last few games has helped keep our momentum going.
