A very convincing win today in our first pre season game.
A number of new faces and many new combinations did not stop Egbertians dominating the opening 30 minutes of the game. The movement was good and Hale End were chasing shadows.
Our opening goal came from a corner which Severin Kenk on his debut raced onto and powered home a close range header. We conceded a goal 5 minutes later when a long punt up the field bounced and caught out both the midfield and Defence. Their striker latched on to the ball and passed the ball into the net. This was against the run of play.
We quickly went ahead again when a quick inter change of passes between James Dennis and debutant Ali Sayadi resulted in Ali threading an inch perfect through ball to Mike Ramsey. Ramsey ran threw at an angle and lashed the shot home. 2-1. Our 3rd came very quickly afterwards when again some good ball retention resulted in Severin releasing Mike Ramsey who again gave the keeper no chance.
Hale End got a goal back when we were caught in possession of the ball and they broke on our goal. Their striker was brought down as he raced through on goal. They converted the resulting spot kick.
The second half saw Hale End up the tempo, become more physical and utulise their subs fully. We started tiring and the game became a little disjointed. Coupled with a number of personel changes the game became tight and combative.
We held our nerve, hit the post from 30 yards with a Ali Sayadi strike and had a number of decent breaks which with a better final ball would have made the win more convincing.
All in all a very promising win with the new look Egbertians side.
