Egbertian XI kicked off the season in style with a 2-1 win over Oakhill Tigers at a sunny Peter May. Both teams failed to stamp any authority on the game in the early stages but Garrett was alert in the Egs goal and pulled off a wonder save down to his bottom left to save a sure goal. You won't see many better saves than that this season. Egs slowly started getting on top with Brooks showing his skills on the right and the breakthrough duly came in the 34 min when Kent played a one-two with Goulding and expertly rounded the keeper and hit the back of the net to make it 1-0 to the Egs at halftime. The second half saw Egs drop deeper than they should have and Oakhill Tigers exerted the pressure with a number of corner and free kicks that saw back 4 tested and needed Garrett once more to pull off some top draw saves. Young then made way for Baldwin, and from the restart Garrett played the ball up to Goulding who flicked it through to Baldwin who with his first touch, clipped the ball over the keeper from 20 yards into the top corner to make it 2-0. A goal truly made and executed from the Egs IV Management. Oakhill Tigers battled to the end and got a consolation goal at the death but the day belonged to Egs and their much loved Lothario Shaun McCann who bagged his second Engagement this weekend.
