Our best performance this season!

The scoreline does not show that we were the better side.

Old Vaughnians are two divisions above us and a good hardworking outfit. But we outplayed them for large parts or the game and could have won by much more goals than we did. We had about 8 '1-on-1's' with their keeper who kept them in the game. Some very good last ditch blocks from the oppo and a clear penalty when their player stopped a header on goal by using his arm to pin the ball against the post before he cleared it....I kid you not!

But regarding the game - we had 4 debutants today which meant that we were a little disjointed for the 1st 15 minutes and Vaughnians pressed us well to take the initiative. We held our resolves and started making forays into their half. They were dangerous and our full backs (Tyrone Waite and Tomek Swharz) had to work very hard to contain their main threats (wingers). But as the half wore on we started getting combinations going. Mike Ramsay and James Dennis started retaining possession in the cetre of the park and we started creating opportunities. The breakthrough goal came in the 35 minute when the ball was fed into Theo Stoica, who 40 yards out cut in from the side and made his way into the middle of the park. He lashed a low drive across the keeper from 30 yards out and the ball skipped past the keeper into the back of the net.

Old Vaughnians were not shy to put tackles in and they did what they could to physically get back into the game. Some great link up play between Theo, Bobby, Ramsay and debutant Ogi Stefanonv saw some great blocks and saves from the oppo.

We went into second half on the up. The 2nd goal came from a some good wing play which resulted in Ogi taking a pass into his stride from Bobby Clarke. He then ran down the wing and quickly rolled the ball across the goal and in swept Theo to deftly pass the ball into the bottom left hand corner. 2- nil.

Again we had chances - twice when Mike Ramsay robbed a player in midfield and took on half their team only for the keeper to block the first time and the second time he narrowly shot wide.

Old Vaughnians got a goal back from a failed clearance. We quickly regained the initiative when debutant Jermaine Da Costa, playing out of position at full back intercepted a through ball to their winger and went on a run up the park. Ogi pulled out to the wing to receive Jermaine's pass and with a quickness of feet put their defender on the floor and returned the ball into Jermnaine's path who had carried his run. Jermaine cut in on goal, slipped between two players with a burst of pace, approached their keeper and deftly lifted the ball over him. This was a great team goal!

We carried working hard and creating chances whilst nullifying their dangerous forward players. Special praise goes out to Michael Proctor for dropping to Centre back and marshaling the new look defense along with Heppy our keeper. Old Vaughnians are a decent side and very good scalp to get.

Vaughnians got a conciliation goal back in the dying seconds to make the scoreline look closer than it actually was.

Now its time to start getting a settled side out to pick up more points in the league.
