1st Team 3 - 0 Leyton County Old Boys
Date: 2016-02-13
Venue: Away
Referee:

A very strong and dominant win today.

We started the game well and took control almost from the kick off. Leyton County could not get near us and were bickering among themselves.

Our pressure stretched them but this failed to materialise into a goals. We kept up the tempo and after 20 minute our first goal soon came. A corner resulted in some confusion and a weak clearance. Dwayne Francis swiveled and volleyed a close range shot back towards the goal. It cannoned off a couple of lads on its way in. 1 nil.

Leyton County grew more frustrated and they started to get physical and a series of late tackles resulted in 15 man pushing and shoving brawl. The referee was derelict of his duty.

There were a number of off the ball incidents and the game descended in a scrappy and aggressive affair.

This played in Leyton County's hands and we lost our rhythm for the final 20 minutes of the 1st half.

We regrouped at half time. I spoke in length with the referee, who had said on a few occasions that "it's a mans game"..........I took exception to this and made it clear I thought he was creating a dangerous environment.

We went in the second half and moved the ball quicker and had Leyton chasing shadows for the remainder of the game. There were a few more bad/late challenges and off the ball fouls but the referee chose to pretend to not see these infringements.

After 55 minutes a great 8 pass move starting from the back saw Mike Ramsay exchange passes with Antonio Azevedo and run through on goal. He lashed a low drive from 25 yards out and beat the keeper. 2-nil.

We had a number of chances after this goal to kill the oppo off but we failed to hit the target or the keeper managed to block the shots. After 65 minutes Antonio picked the ball up on the edge of the area and held off a defender. He checked back, created an angle and smashed a rising drive into the roof of the net - 3-nil.

We had about 5 more chances to punish Leyton County but failed to convert them.

The game played out with Egbertians dominant in possession. A really strong performance that sees us head into next weeks semi-final full of confidence.
