A hard fought victory yesterday
A much deserved win but one we made very hard work of.
We started the game well and went ahead after 10 minutes. A lofted cross stood up at the back post and Dwayne Francis ghosted in and headed into the goal. 1- nil.
We started getting combinations together and had about 3-4 good opportunities come about. But the keeper was quick of his line and managed to unsettle the shooter or smother the shot. We should have done better in the phase of play. Then after about 30 minutes we slowed the match down and did not move the ball anyway near the intensity needed to trouble the oppo. Our ball retention went down and Herts Uni started breaking on our goal. They soon scored from a corner. Their player ran in at the back post and swept the ball into the net unchallenged.
Then Heppy made a double point blank save which kept us level. Herts Uni are a confidence side and going ahead at this time would have caused us trouble.
We switched personnel around a little at half time to address their main threat - the wingers.
We struggled to get a rhythm going but created a number of chances including two more 1v1's. Dwayne Francis raced through and beat the keeper with a firmly hit low shot in one of the created opportunities. The game ebbed and flowed through to the end.
We should have scored more goal to have the game well out of sight. But the most important thing is we got another league win under our belt and get us closer to the middle table teams and league standing respectability.
Another plus point from the game was Richard Warner played a full 90 minutes in his first outfield game back this season.
