A great performance that we was really unlucky to lose! And with nine first team players out this week a great opportunity to look at new players.

We started the game very well controlling the ball and looking relaxed, we forced a free kick on the edge of the box and a great ball whipped in by Steve was met when Danny Morgan beat a defender to put us 1-0 after 5 mins. This lifted the team and we started to move the ball about nicely, we kept Grantonians boxed in and they hit us on the counter attack but a great 1:1 save from step in keeper Joe Scully meant that we stayed in control. A great cross from Massey was put in off the head of Pawel who had been looking dangerous every time he had the ball. Another quick counter attack saw Grantonians put a great ball over the top to put their fast No 10 to again go 1:1 with Joe but he pulled off another great save this time with his foot. Unluckily Joe’s luck ran out after another quick move by the pacey striker saw him slot one past to make it 2-1 at half time.

We came out fired up looking to build on our lead but after our young centre back went down we struggled to find the momentum, Grantonians also put a big guy in the middle of the park and he was winning a lot in the air. Some sloppy defending in the box saw us give the ball away and Grantonians did not turn the chance down putting a goal away from 6 yards and making it 2-2. Grantonians quickly capitalised on the frustration of our defence and this time a poor clearance saw Joe push a shot towards a Grantonians player who again took another gift of a goal. At 3-2 we still looked the stronger team and Louis was getting quite a bit of the ball on the left side, he mixed it up well with Santi and put a good ball into Pawel who turned and slotted it past the keeper 3-3.

It was looking like we was going into extra time when Miller brought the ball down 40 yards out and hit an amazing shot that hit the underside of the cross bar but fell to a Grantonians player who cleared it. Heading into injury time it was Grantonians to made the most of it as we switched off, a great break meant they went 1:1 again and this time it was put across the goal and into the far post. They broke from the kick off and put the final nail in the coffin and progressed to the next round.

Some very good performances today and some very positive signs despite the score line
