4th Team 3 - 6 Old Minchendenians V
Date: 2012-09-29
Venue: Home
Referee: John McKenna

Fighting performance from the 4th team, but they just didn’t have enough strength to keep it going.

The game started brightly with the Egs knocking the ball about well, some great passing between Hooper, Louis and Santi resulted in Hooper putting Santi clean on goal to take the lead. As the Egs started to pile pressure on another great combination between Hooper and Louis put us 2-0 up after Louis had his first shot blocked but buried the follow up. The Egs started to put more pressure the Minchendenians goals but Minch looked to counter attack and this was to become Egs undoing! After a poor clearance a ball was rolled out to the oncoming Minch players in what was to be one mistake from our brave stand in Keeper! Minch capitalised and made it 2-1. The game started to even out a bit as Minch started to get more of the midfield and a late challenge gave them a penalty to make it 2-2, they converted but Killian made a good effort and almost got a hand to it.

Minchendenians started to expose a weakness in our defence as tey kept countering and Peter was played them onside quite a few times, Duncan Hill was great at the back covering but it was starting to become too much as Minch started to out-strength our younger midfield players and over run the defence. Some more poor defending saw Minch go 2-3 and then 2-4 up as they started to look better on the ball constantly finding space on the right.

The second half was the same with Egs controlling the pace and ball but getting hit on the break and every time Minch looked likely to score. Another quick break and Minch took the lead to 3 goals, Egs bounced back quickly after a good run from Louis down the left and Pav scored to make it 3-5. Some good chances from CJ, Louis, Pav and Perry were all saved and on any other day this could have seen Egs with 7 goals! But not today, another break and Minch was clean on goal with 3 players to get an easy final goal to round of the game 3-6 to Minchendenians.

With a strong goalkeeper and the return of Muk in defence we should see the Egs turn a corner but they desperately needed a midfield general to support MOTM Nick Heavin. The whole team showed great spirit but a special mention to Dunc & Dan Heavin who along with Nick played out of their skins…
