1st Team 2 - 1 Old Aloysians IV
Date: 2012-11-03
Venue: Home
Referee: Julio Joseph

Bertians started brightly unlike last week where it took us 15 mins to warm up and get into the game! We made our intentions knows early with a few good breaks down the left and right flanks and quickly started to use our pace to get in behind the Aloysians defence. Mike, Joe and Danny Morgan all had efforts inside the first 20 mins but it was Rhys who opened the scoring after a first shot was parried away but fell directly in front of him and he calmly took the shot firing into the bottom left corner. From that point on there was really only one team in the game as Aloysians seem to be happy with the occasional counter attack despite having some good position in the middle. With about 10 mins to go we had a clear cut penalty waved away after the Aloysian left back rased his hand pushing the ball down in front of him and then setting up a break from their own half, this and some very clear elbows from the striker started to frustrate the lads and Chris looked to take his out on the woodwork after a screamer from 40 yards out!

We were unlucky to go into the break only 1-0 up but we needed a bigger cushion as Aloysians were very quick on the counter attack. The second half was much like the first with Bertians controlling the ball and pace of the game and both side playing some great quick passing football. Mike started the half very lively as he had a few one on ones and tested the keeper, but his first and our second came from the move of the match when Joe made a run down the right side cutting in and passing to D Morgan who dummied it and let the ball run to Chris who then set Mike up to put us 2-0 up. We had expected Aloysians to collapse a bit after the second but they showed great spirit and kept coming at us attacking more than they had for most of the game. Our clean sheet was broken after a ball over the top on the midfield was missed by our defence and the young Aloysians pounced to jump on the chance. The game was very bitty for the last 10 mins with both team going back and forth, Aloysians looking for an equaliser and Bertians to extend the lead and kill the game off. It looked very likely to be the latter when Joe and Mike both broke leaving the Aloysians defence up field and the Aloysians keeper managed to get fingers to Mike shot.

The game ended 2-1 and I think we made it harder than we needed, Credit to Aloysians they showed great spirit and were a good side, I can see why they finished high last season.
