1st Team 2 - 1 Old Woodhouseians II

We started the game with 10 men due to traffic and sending a few players to lower teams. Even with 10 men we looked too much for Old Woods as we started very brightly passing the ball about and controlling the pace. By the time we had 11 on the field we were still in control of the game and starting to threaten the Woods goal. The first goal came when Old Woods hit us on the break and a player was brought down outside the box but with the narrow angle the Ref had he felt it was inside (Harsh but understandable as it was right on the line). Old Woods converted the penalty and this seemed to wake them up and we dropped down a gear.
The second half we took control of the game and both teams played some very good football with lots of back and forth and plenty of chances at goal from Rhys, Mike, D Morgan and Garry. With 15 mins to go it was not looking like our day until a great pass from Chris was latched onto by Mike who turned a defender and slotted it home with a powerful low shot. Woods started to back up and we took full advantage playing nice long balls into wide positions that saw Rhys and Webbo both having good efforts. With less than a min of normal time and 3 added for injuries a great free kick from inside our half found the feet of Webbo who calmly finished with a low shot to the near post that gave the keeper no chance.
A great hard fought victory that see’s the Might Bertian Boys go into 2nd spot opening the opportunity to push Minch for the title….
