The pitch was looking a bit choppy and in need of a haircut!
Hale End have always given us a hard game and looking at their results it was hard to tell what Hale End would turn up, the one who got thumped 8-1 by University of Hertfordshire or the one who ended Old Salvatorians long unbeaten record.
The game started slow with both teams just knocking the ball about and not really threatening the goal. It was Hale End that started the goal threat after a good move starting from the No 6 Centre Back down the Egbertians left side, that was quickly broken up by new first team left back Charlie Hill. Egbertians started to build a bit of momentum and had the majority of the possession but really failed to threaten the goal in the first half and with Hale End looking good on the counter attack we knew it was a real risk we could lose this game.
The second half saw a much better response and Egbertians started off a lot better than in the first half with some good opportunities falling in front of James Webster, Harley Hicks and Dan Morgan, but Dan was denied by the crossbar, Harley a GREAT save from the Hale End Keeper and Webbo the ref after he cancelled out a deflected shot for offside. The only goal in fact came to Ryan Folan who was fed in by Webbo and calmly put away his second in two games.
A very hard point but I think we made it harder than it had to be…
