A tough loss today

Unfortunately we've played this type of game before - too many times in fact.

We bossed the game from beginning to end. But failed to convert any of our chances.

The game started well without us really forcing their keeper into any saves. But after about 25 minutes a ball over the top, saw Ollie turn his man raced onto the ball. He lobbed the keeper only for the shot to bounce of the underside of the crossbar and out again.

We carried on playing the football and broke up any sporadic attacks from County. That said we did not move the ball particularly quickly and met 'brick walls' due to our slowness in launching attacks. During this time the oppo defended well. With their fast full backs they always seemed protected at the back.

We went into half time made a sub and decided that the tempo needed to increase in order to find holes and gaps in Leyton County. This we did and they were at full stretch to contain us. A cleared out cross saw the ball fall to Mod who controlled the ball and drilled a low hard drive from 30 yards out. The ball hit the post with the keeper well beaten. We maintained our tempo and caused Leyton all sorts of problems but our final 3rd decision making was not the best. We shot when we should have passed, we delayed when we should have shot or crossed. We did not attack the penalty spot when crosses were there to be met and over hit a number of through balls and crosses.

This is really what undone us not the berating that the referee got from Leyton County on a number decisions. So much so that he changed his mind a few times.

We pushed for the winner and the ball fell to Ollie abut 25 yrds out. His shot was defected onto the post and away for some much needed respite for Leyton County. We had a free header from a quick cross which we failed to hit the target from - 6 yrds out. With 10 minutes to go a long clearance from the oppo went in behind our right back. Their striker raced onto it down the left hand side and whilst running away from goal and from a tight angle, lashed a shot in off the right upright - An unbelievable finish!

This knocked the 'wind out of our sails' a little but we carried on pressing and drew some last ditch tackles and blocks from Leyton County.

We played until the end and played football. But our inability to score coupled with one lapse in concentration at the back saw Leyton County 'pick our pockets' today. Two of their players came over to us afterwards and apologised for 'robbing' us....lol and the referee came over and consoled us on what he thought was a totally one-sided game!

The performance was good but the result hugely disappointing. This makes it difficult but not impossible to catch the leading teams.

Time to get back on track next week.
