1st Team 2 - 0 Old Uffingtonians II

We started the game brightly knocking the ball about very well and keeping Uffingtonians boxed in, they could not handle the pace of our wingers and when we ran the ball in behind them they looked all over the place. The first 15 mins saw us have no less that four chances down the right side as Adam roasted their left back getting to the touchline and pulling the ball back across goal, the problem was he was too fast for the rest of the team meaning it took a few chances until we worked out right where we wanted the ball to drop. When we did Uffingtonians looked in all sorts of trouble with the Keeper pulling of come cracking saves and us just missing the target. The first goal came with the same move but this time Dan Morgan was well placed to knock it home.
This seemed to spark Uffingtonians into life who would hit us on the break and caused us a few problems in the middle, but our defence was solid and the odd chance that got let off was easily save by stand in keeper Joe Scully. We have a few more chances with Rhys, Mike, Chris and Adam all just missing the target but it was tight going into the break 1-0.
The second half was much like the first but we allowed Uffingtonians to push a little bit more up field so we could use our legs to get behind them, this worked great but some poor officiating meant that we were wrongly called offside on about seven occasions and we were getting very frustrated as we should have been four or five in front. The second goal came when a great ball was played from defence out to Joe on the left side who picked out a perfect pass for the hard working Adam who ran straight through the defence and on to goal making it look way too easy. We had few more great chances some great quick football between Joe and Adam saw Joe shoot just wide and another slick run from Adam saw him clipped by the keeper after a 1:1 but the best more was Chris Beamont, who picked the ball up half way in our area and best about five players bursting in 1:1 with the keeper and narrowly missing the target!
Great defensive performance and overall a very good performance but we needed to take our chances better…
